Field Test Procedure
(PVB) ASSEMBLIES Using 5-Valve Test Kit
Pressure Vacuum Breaker Test Procedures (PVB)
- Tester and Hoses must be at the same elevation as the Vacuum Breaker
- Remove Canopy so vent opening may be visually checked.
- Bleed Test Ports to clean out any debris.
- Close Shut-off valve #2
- Close Shut-off valve #1
- If Vent Opens, Shut-off valve #2 is leaking and must be repaired before the test can be done. (Report leaking on test form)
- If Vent stays closed. Continue to step 6.
- Open Test Port #1
- If water drains from Test Port and vents opens, check valve is leaking.
- If water drains from Test Port and vents does not open, shut-off valve #1 is leaking.
- If A or B is the case, report and or do repair/ replacement. If not, continue to step #7
- Close Test Port # 1
- Open Shut-Off valve #1
- CLOSE ALL VALVE ON TESTER!!!! (High/Low valves and Bleed Valves)
- Attach high Hose to Test Cock #1
- Open Test Port #1 (Gauge Should go to 15 PSI or greater).
- Bleed Air from using High Hose.
- Close Shut-off Valve #1
- Open Test Port #2 (Vent will Open) The differential gauge should drop to no lower than 1 PSI. (If the device has a passing number, fill in the report. If it fails, repair or replace).
- Close Test Ports #1 & #2 and remove high hose.
- Attach High Hose to Test Port #2
- Open Shut-off Valve #1
- Open Test Port #2
- Bleed air from test using the High Bleed.
- Close Shut-off Valve #1.
- Slowly bleed down pressure (bleed using hi. Bleed) Vent must open at 1 PSID or higher. (Report Air Inlet Spring loading on form)
- Close all Valves on tester, close Test Port#2. Remove test equipment and return device to original condition.
****Always store your Backflow Differential Gauge at a high/secure spot in your work vehicle with all valves open so that gravity will help drain all remaining water from test.
The tester shall provide copies of the test results to the owner and other appropriate parties as required. The tester shall maintain a copy for his or her records.
