Field Test Procedure
(RP) ASSEMBLIES Using 5-Valve Test Kit
Flush Test Cocks (TC)
- Close #2 Ball Valve on Backflow.
- Install Test adapter (90-micron filler equipped preferred).
- Open TC #4, let trickle.
- Open TC#2, then close.
- Open TC #3, then close.
- Close TC #4.
Attach Test Kit
- Close Hi, Lo and bypass valves and Hi and Lo bleed valves on test kit.
- Attach High hose to TC #2, Low hose to TC#3 AND Bypass Hose to TC#4.
- Open TC#2.
- Open High bleed valve; bleed air, close High bleed valve.
- Open TC #3.
- Open Low bleed valves; bleed air, close Low bleed valve.
- Open High Valve for duration of the test.
- Open Bypass Valve.
- Loosen Bypass hose at TC #4; bleed air, tighten.
- Slowly open Low bleed valve until needle on test kit pegs to 15 PSI then close.
Test Results: If the differential gauge reading remains steady, record #2 shut off valve as tight.
#1 Check Differential
- Close Bypass valve.
- Open TC#2 and TC#3.
- Open High bleed Valve.
- Open Low bleed Valve.
- Close High and Close Low bleed Valve (in this order).
Test Results: Record the pressure differential across #1 check valve. If the differential reading is 5 PSID or greater, record the number and mark check valve #1 as tight.
Relief Valve Test
- Slowly open Low Valve, when relief valve first drips, record this number.
Test Results: The relief valve must read 2 psid or greater. If the reading is 2 psid or higher, make certain the buffer between #1 check valve and relief valve is 3 psid or greater for backflow to pass.
#2 Check Differential
- Attach High Hose to TC#3.
- Attach Low hose to TC#4.
- Open TC#3, Open TC#4.
- Open Hi bleed, Open Lo Bleed.
- Close Hi bleed, Close Lo Bleed.
Test Results: Record pressure differential across #2 check valve. If the differential reading is 1 PSID or greater record the reading and mark check valve #2 as tight.
Restore System
- Close all TC’s
- Remove hoses.
- Open all valves on the test kit to drain water.
- Restore #2 shutoff valve to pretest state.
The tester shall provide copies of the test results to the owner and other appropriate parties as required. The tester shall maintain a copy for his or her records.
